Hi all,

In Term 1 I’ve organised a few professional development opportunities that you are more than welcome to tap into.  Instead of running them at the EDC, I have decided to support my local church by using the excellent facilities found at the Performing Arts Academy (Part of the Christian Family Centre, Frederick Road, Seaton.  They have hundreds of empty (and free) car parking spaces,  excellent public transport links, a little kitchen we can use and cafes near by for lunch.  It should be great!

Have a look at the list below.  Remember that I am always more than happy to run professional development courses at your schools – I do that a fair bit these days 🙂 Also, If you’re a full time student then drop me an email if you’d like to come along – there might be a discounted price in it for you 😉

Hope to see you at one of the below opportunities.

PLEASE NOTE: After some great feedback, I am in the process of moving the dates for the ‪#‎innovate‬ course to Early Term 2. Tickets sales are currently offline whilst I confirm dates

Part 1: TBC: (Probably May 9th) 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM
Part 2: TBC: (Probably June 6th) 8:30 AM -12:00

“Innovation”

It’s a big word and it’s buzzing around our schools right now.  How much time do we get to explore what Innovation actually means for learners (Including ourselves as teachers) ? We need to make that time. Time to find a ‘problem’, pitch a solution, implement the first run of that solution and evaluate it.

So, this workshop comes in two parts. The first is a one day session at “The Shed” in Seaton which will enable us to explore what innovation actually is.  We’ll see ourselves as teacher innovators, identifying a “problem” for our “users”, drafting a plan and pitching it to our co-attendees to get suggestions and ideas to enhance it. Then we’ll go away and “do” what we have planned.  ... read more

Monday, 7 March 2016 from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM

There’s a lot to look at in the ICT General Capability.  There’s a statutory requirement in place that we all cover the contents of that wonderful wheel of information communication technology yet, many of us are not too sure what it is we actually need to cover or how on earth we’re going to cover it – the curriculum is pretty busy!

In this session we will explore one small bite of the ICT General Capability –

Applying social and ethical protocols and practices when using ICT

We will explore all four of the areas identified within this Organising Element.  This includes:

  • Intellectual Property,
  • Digital Information Security Practices
  • The Impacts of ICT in Society and
  • Personal Security Protocols.

Be ready to explore ideas like: copyright, creative commons,  Malware, popups, digital citizenships, web literacy, emotional safety, health and wellbeing, auditing and more.  This is much more than cyber safety 🙂 … read more
